Leadership Team

Haliza Hashim-Doyle

Chairperson / Trustee – UK based 
Haliza Hashim-Doyle is a television journalist and a freelance writer based in London.
 
She has been involved in various charities and societies in the UK since 2008. She joined MHUK Board of Trustees in 2015 and was soon elected as the Chairperson.
 
She is an active fundraiser and organises numerous events for the charity.
 
Haliza joined several medical and humanitarian missions in refugee camps in Beqaa Valley, Lebanon, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh and Calais, France as a volunteer and as a media personnel to raise awareness on their plight.
 
In the UK, she helped set up ‘Drum for Hope’ psycho-social activities for refugee children, and wellbeing support for homeless people.
 
As a mental health advocate – in 2021 – Haliza set-up ‘Talian Kasih MERCY’, a mental wellbeing helpline and support platform for Malaysian university students in the UK; the support has since expanded to Europe.

Ranjidam (Ranji) Kent

Treasurer / Trustee – UK based 
Ranji Kent is a paediatric nurse based in Nottingham.
 
She has 45 years of experience in plastic, spinal and orthopaedic aspects of nursing.
 
Her voluntary work began with helping the tsunami victims in Banda Aceh, Indonesia in 2004.
 
Since then Ranji’s medical and humanitarian work has extended to helping those affected by the Haiyan typhoon in the Philippines, and the Syrian refugees in Beqaa Valley, Lebanon.
 
She led the ‘Make me Smile’ campaign for MHUK in Myanmar in 2019; and later in Cambodia in 2020 where she coordinated a successful mission to Phnom Penh hospital in January, which involved a medical team from the UK performing cleft lip and palate surgeries on under privileged children.
 
Ranji’s next cleft lip and palate project will be in Nepal in 2024.

Dr. Nazurah Malek

Secretary / Trustee – UK based 

Dr Nazurah Malek is a GP Specialty Trainee, currently practising in the UK. She graduated from University of Aberdeen in 2017 and has worked in North East of England andYorkshire region.

She joined Mercy Malaysia UK (now known as MHUK) in 2021 as an active volunteer and has helped raised fund for the charity. She was then elected as a trustee in 2022. 

She has been involved in variety of volunteering programmes locally and back in Malaysia as a medical student, including The Kalsom Movement. 

During her GP training, she has had a fair share of experience dealing with mental health patients whilst working in the Emergency Department as well as in the community.

As a Mental Health Advocate in MHUK, through Talian Kasih Mercy, she is keen to help University students across UK, raising awareness and taking care of their mental wellbeing. With her experience as a clinician and her passion in
volunteering, she hopes to be able to do more in the near future with MHUK.

During her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities like walking and exploring the nature (especially waterfalls!).

Adzlin Azhar Simin

Trustee – UK based 

Adzlin has had an extensive career with a leading international bank in Malaysia.

For over a decade she held various roles & responsibilities within Citibank Malaysia, with her last as Chief of Staff & Head of Public Relations. She was then headhunted and subsequently joined the office of Malaysia’s fourth Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

She stepped down from this role after 10 years to focus her time on her family.

Dr. Rowena Abdul Razak

Trustee – UK based

Rowena Abdul Razak holds a DPhil in Oriental Studies from the University of Oxford. Having gone through anxietyand depression as a student, she’s passionate about openness and breaking the stigma around mental health. Sheworks as a lecturer in history in London.

Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus 

Trustee – Malaysia based 

 Dr Faizal is the current President of MERCY Malaysia. He joined MERCY Malaysia in 2003 as a volunteer and within the year was made a member of MERCY Malaysia’s Executive Council. His expertise has been lent on a number of international medical and humanitarian missions.

He became the first Asian to be elected as Chairperson of the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA), the world’s biggest network of humanitarian NGOs. He is also the President of PHAP (Professionals in Humanitarian Action & Protection), the world’s largest network of humanitarian professionals. 

He is currently attached to KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital as a Consultant Physician (Internal Medicine, Respiratory and Sleep Medicine).

Associate Prof. Dr. Shalimar Abdullah

Trustee – Malaysia based

Dr. Shalimar Abdullah currently works as a Hand Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in the Hand & Microsurgery Unit, Department of Orthopaedics, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Kuala Lumpur.

She obtained her medical degree from the University of Nottingham, England, UK in 1998. She then specialised in Orthopaedic Surgery in UKM, Malaysia, in 2005 and underwent subspecialisation in Hand Surgery in 2007 from the prestigious Kleinert Institute, Louisville, USA in 2010.

She is very active with Mercy Malaysia since 1998. Currently she holds the post of Vice-President I and has responded to many humanitarian crisis in Malaysia and many other countries such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Japan, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Philippines.

She is the Team Lead for the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) which has been certified by WHO in March 2023 as a Fixed Type 1 health facility, the only NGO team in Asia with that distinction. She has extensive experience in crises such as earthquakes, typhoons, floods, refugee displacement and the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

YM Datin Raja Riza

Trustee – Malaysia based 
YM Datin Raja Riza is a lawyer by training. She read law & graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University Of Glamorgan (now known as University of South Wales) UK in 1997. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in January 2000. She also holds a Diploma in Syarie Legal Practice (DSLP) from the International Islamic University Malaysia. Raja Riza was an advocate and solicitor for almost 20 years before retiring to spearhead and develop a Philanthropy Office under the CEO’s office for the Sunway Education Group. 
 
Raja Riza was the Honorary Secretary of MERCY Malaysia from 2006-2017 and was the Vice President II from 2017-2023 (june 2023). She is now the Legal Advisor for the organisation. Raja Riza is also one of the founding trustee of MHUK ( formerly known as MMUK) and was instrumental in setting up MMUK back in 2014. Raja Riza has been a volunteer with MERCY Malaysia since 2003. 
 
Raja Riza is the founder of Messrs. Raja Riza & Associates incorporated in 2004, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is currently an independant legal & fundraising consultant for NGOs, private companies and academic institutions.

Chow Mei Mei

Trustee – Malaysia based

Mei Mei sits on multiple boards as an Independent Non-Executive Chair / Board member.

An ICAEW Fellow Chartered Accountant by profession, Mei Mei has 25+ years in senior management and C suite in several conglomerates and listed companies responsible for group strategy and portfolio planning, group finance and treasury, M+A activities and group supply chain.

Mei Mei is passionate about voluntary work to ‘give back to society’ and to nurture younger generation of entrepreneurs and corporate leaders. Charitable NGOs which Mei Mei has been / is involved in include being the Chair of Make-a-Wish Malaysia, and Advisor to the Board of Trustees of Teach for Malaysia.
