Covid-19 in the UK

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, we were faced with many uncertainties. In the United Kingdom, we went into lockdown and we adjusted to a “new normal.” Healthcare services were put in the frontline of the fight against the illness. In early April, MMUK launched a ‘COVID-19 Front Liners PPE Appeal’ to support the frontliners.
Despite the lockdown and being low on funds, our team was able to work remotely and secure donations from corporations, families and friends. Through this, MMUK was able to obtain over 15,000 PPE items from Malaysia, China and the UK, with gowns hand-sewn by Malaysian designers. Our volunteers packed and distributed the PPE all over England.

The MMUK team organised and personally delivered non-woven long sleeved gowns, tyveks, gloves, face masks and face shields to 26 hospitals, health practitioners, care homes, hospices and Muslim cemeteries around the UK during the height of the pandemic.

Our volunteers prepared the PPE for distribution and also transported the PPE (see image below).

MMUK was able to reach out and do its bit to support frontliners during this difficult time. In addition to providing PPE, MMUK also started to collaborate with designers and volunteers in the UK and Malaysia to make, promote and sell batik reusable and washable face masks. This proved very popular with over 1,000 face masks sold by November 2020.

MMUK also provided longterm support and moral support to Malaysians who became ill with COVID-19. We will keep helping when we can. We hope that we have brighter and better days ahead.
Thank you to all our volunteers and a special thank you to our donors and to everyone who donated.
